In this course students will look at Society and Culture in Korea, make comparisons with life in NZ and share their opinions with justification.
Topics will include: Tourism, Future plans, Pop Culture, Celebrations.
Culture is taught alongside the language to further understanding of other cultures and to become more culturally aware and open to new ideas and opinions to be global citizens in this diverse community.
By the end of the course, students who successfully complete the course should be able to
- Take part in general conversations with Korean speakers, understand much of what is said, and contribute relevant comments.
- Explain and discuss many of your own ideas and use language creatively.
- This year you will read a variety of authentic material and write expressively for a range of purposes.
- You will use a range of language-learning strategies effectively and by the end of the year you will be able to act in a culturally appropriate way in most social situations involving native speakers.
Requirements
Year 12 Korean or Head of Department approval. However students are dealt with on a case by case.

About the Teacher
Sue Kim has been teaching Korean, Japanese, and Digital Technology in New Zealand for 14 years. She is originally from Busan, Korea, but has been living in New Zealand since 1996. Ms Kim is a Martial Arts expert and is experienced in Kung Fu, Tae-Kwon-Do, and is currently training in Karate on a regular basis as well as competing, judging and refereeing at National competitions. She also loves tramping, walking, and running.
